We can’t think of a better film to kick off our Film Noir season than the Rita Hayworth classic, Gilda. Starring George Macready as wealthy casino owner Ballin Mundson, and Glenn Ford as down at heels gambler Johnny Farrell. The film revolves around Farrell’s appointment by Mundson as the manager of his Buenos Aires casino. On arrival in Argentina, Farrell is shocked when Mundson’s wife (Hayworth) turns out to be an old flame. The tension between the former lovers and Mundson’s business dealings with an illegal international commodity cartel act as fuel for the fire that burns throughout this classic Film Noir. Littered with intrigue, deception and other Film Noir stalwarts, Grita is a true classic of the genre.
